Case background

We already had a customer who makes intelligent lock in Fenland and cooperated since year 2012. Until now, Harber had developed at leaset 50 kinds of lock parts for them,used material MIM4605, Fe4Ni, FeNi7, 304L and 316L. The engineers of this company is very satisfied with our service and quality even though we have some batches which is out of tolerance which cannot avoid by MIM technology.So they introduced a big lock company in Switzerland. But this customer place us a product having a complex and irregular profile, many important dimensions should be in tolerance. We will have a try using our experiences and special tooling design.

This part is used material MIM4605(Fe2Ni), normally used in MIM process, having good toughness. High hardness after heat treatment. It weight 73g, 117mm*28mm*24mm.Harber MIM delivery the ripe experiences and solution.

Solution

If the hardness below 20HRC, MIM4605 have soft texture. We think MIM4605 is better because of this property and correct shape by post processing.

Harber MIM designed a customized bracket, Put the product on the bracket, degrease and sinter together to get the finished product with the same shrinkage ratio.

In this way, we could promise the profile as drawings but will waste a lot of same material that cannot collected again. The total unite price should be rise quickly but must lower than machining directly.

This process is very suitable for making products in batches. The quality tolerance of the same batch of products is very stable, which is more stable than the machining quality. So many lock companies choose this MIM process. The sales performance of this MIM industry is increasing year by year, and more people understand,learn it and choose this process.
